Quilters Loft is now accepting applications for full time Sales Associates, for the quilt shop and sewing machine sales..

All positions requires a candidate who can work independently, flexible, exceptional customer service, and have a strong knowledge of sales. Must be a team player.

Sewing, Quilting, Machine Embroidery, computer software skills, and knowledge of Pfaff Sewing Machines and marketing a plus!

Additional position requirements:

Ability to work Tuesday to Saturday

Ability to lift 30 - 50 pounds or more

Excellent math skills

Knowledge of computer POS systems and Microsoft windows

Ability to teach Classes for all products

Ability to travel to shows and customer homes when needed.

Ability to work overtime on short notice when needed.

We will train for the position if you meet most of the qualifications.

The Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace will be here before you know it. Now that you have finished baking and cleaning and making lists of things that needed your attention at the last minute, think about a whole day of sewing, fabric shopping and creativity on the other side of all that chaos.

The Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace will be held January 6 – 7, 2012, at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash St., Sanford, NC 27330. The hours both days are 9 am – 5 pm. Admission is $5.00. Kathryn Gives Back!! A note from Mom!

Erica,

I just wanted to give you a glimpse at how one person's gift to a child has served others. Several years ago, you gave away a sewing machine to Kathryn when you had a contest in which the students were to write about why they would like to win a sewing machine. That year, Kathryn wrote about how she would like to sew for others.

She did win a machine from you. After attending several Quilter's Loft camps and sewing along with me at home, she is pretty comfortable tackling about any project.

In November, it was time to put together our Operation Christmas Child Box. In addition to our normal shoebox contributions, Kathryn decided to sew a pillowcase style dress from some yardage that we had in our sewing closet. We decided that since we had quite a bit, we would sew a longer dress that an older girl, possibly her age could wear. She included a ribbon belt so that if the dress were too long, the girl could use the belt to make a waist and adjust the length.

Just thought you would like to know that your heart to see little girls sew was reaching more that just one life!

Sock Drive and Making Cards and Pillowcases for Veterans at the VA Hospital

Friday and Saturday our wonderful customers came in to make holiday cards for the Veterans at the VA Hospital. Everyone learned some new skills with using steam a seam and fabric, stamps and inks. Downstairs, in the Pfaff Shop, Pat was busy teaching how to make the pillowcases and we are getting closer to our goal of 120 pillowcases.

Come out this Wednesday as we could use your talents to make more pillowcases and cards. We still could use some white tube socks too.

We package a new pillowcase, a pair of socks and a hand made card for each Veteran. Some go to Pat's Place (Local Vet meeting place) and they distribute them to the local nursing homes for our Veterans. For some this is the only gift they receive and it is nice to let them know that they are not forgotten.

Stop in and sign some of the cards so they are more personal.

Wow, we had a great time for our Second Annual Small Business Saturday! We were so busy today with so many fun happy quilters, getting a great deal on the sale fabrics. Today only for Small Business Saturday, there was 20% extra off our already green tag $5.99 yard fabrics . Judy, Pat, Stephanie and I could hardly keep up. We thank you all for your patience as we tried to keep up with all your needs. And we thank you for supporting a small business on Small Business Saturday!

Randolph Quilt Show

Reba and I went to the Randolph Quilt Show this weekend. It was a lovely drive thru country roads, with all the leaves changing color. Beautiful red, yellow and oranges!! Who needs to go to New England to see fall colors..........we have them right here!!! The weather was perfect..........cold that is.........but we loved it! We had a wonderful chicken salad lunch provided by the C4 Church. It was so tasty.

The Quilt Show was terrific..........lots of beautiful quilts..........such a talented group!! If you missed it here are a few of my favorites that I took pictures of. Love my Droid X phone.........it takes great pictures!!

Moda Talent Show at Houston Quilt Market

Hearts and Hands Show - Sanford North Carolina

Reba and I spent the weekend in Sanford, North Carolina at the Heart and Hands Quilt Show at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center.
The weather was fantastic, cool and sunny with a few clouds...........perfect for me!! It was a nice drive through the countryside looking at all the changing leaves. We had dinner two nights in a row at our favorite Italian restaurant, and had the best roasted chicken. So much food that Reba took all the leftovers home! I don't do leftovers!! Having the roasted chicken two nights in a row was unlike me but that roasted chicken was so good with a sprig of rosemary. Have to remember that!!

The Dennis Wicker Civic Center was a nice place for a show. We had lots of fun, and I remembered to take some pictures of the quilts that I liked best! If you didn't come to the show you missed some beautiful quilts. Lots of beautiful quilts. I took some pictures of my favorites! So here is a preview in cause you didn't make it to the show. We met so many nice people, and had a bit of time to chat with the other vendors. Reba and I also did a bit of spending to help "support the local economy"!

5D (TM) Software Boot Camp

Educators - Diana Cedolia and Kothy Hafersat

Thurs. September 20 to Sat. September 22, 2012

Quilters Loft is excited to present our second annual Embroidery Software Boot Camp. This is an intense workshop on the 5D Embroidery Suite. These classes are hands on! We will have two classes running at the same time. Each will cover similar material but the intermediate class will go at a faster pace.

Class One - this is for beginners. Those who do not have the software, but are interested in learning more about it, those who currently own another brand of software, or have 3D or 4D and have not upgraded to 5D. Class size is limited to 20. We will load the software and provide a dongle for the event.

Class Two - this class is intermediate and for those who already own the 5D Embroidery Software Program. Class size is limited to 20.

Meet Your Educators:

Diana Cedolia is a renowned Software Educator. She is known for her fun and informative computer software classes. Diana has been teaching people how to get the most out of their embroidery software for several years.

Kothy Hafersat enjoys teaching people just how exciting and fun the 5D™ Embroidery Software is. She enjoys sharing her many innovative techniques with other sewing enthusiasts, teaches quilting, sewing, and embroidery software throughout the United States.

Kothy & Diana are well known for their down to earth approach in teaching and they have co-authored the "Simply Teach Me" series of instructional and informative DVD's on the 5D™ Embroidery Software System. These DVD's take you from beginner through intermediate.

Class Fees:

Class Fee is $400.00. Sign up by June 30, 2012, the class sign up fee will be a special rate of $350.00. Kothy will have you complete a questionaire, and then we will assign you to a class. Your space is reserved once payment is received.

Returning Alumni will be $325.00, when you sign up by December 1, 2011.

Pam and I are back from Convention and we are so excited about our new Creative Sensation! We are loving it!! Better than we ever expected and we had high expectations!!!

These machines are in short supply and we were not expecting ours until mid September but it arrived this week!!! Danny checked it out and he is so impressed!!

We have decided to have a "Coming Out" Party on Thursday September 8, 2011 from 6pm to 8:30pm.

Lots more to show you from Convention and we are getting ready for our unveiling!! Lots of new and exciting things to show you............. we are planning on a fun event......entertainment, yes we do entertain......refreshments, prizes.

We are so excited we can't stand it!!! Our sign has been fun to find, since it is facing north and half way up the building. Well, you can find us now!! We were fortunate that Danny's brother is an artist and he gave our old sign a makeover!

The sign use to hang over the door on Moore Street but blew off one very stormy day! Let's see that must have been about four years ago or was that five!!!

We now have a new sign!! Hand painted...........visible and hanging on Main Street! How novel is that. Oh and it's a sewing machine sign! Danny checked and you can see it half way down the block!

Black Velvet Bakery - The freshest bakery in town!!

Today I went to Bob's Grill for a really good chicken sandwich and I stopped into the Black Velvet Bakery for a sweet treat and to say hello to Eric. I looked at the fresh baked bread and I just had to have a loaf to go with my homemade tomato soup that I made last night! The Country Bread was calling to me.............so back to the office I went with a great smelling loaf of Country Bread and of course my Brioche Donut! I just love those Brioche Donuts.........

My office smelled so good all afternoon with my wonderful fresh baked loaf of bread...........and on the way home all I could smell was that wonderful bread........so as soon as I got home I could wait no longer and just had to have a slice before dinner........well then I had a second..........then a third..........nothing tastier with a slab of danish butter.........now I don't need the soup because I am full..........maybe later.

The bread was to "die for"..........I am never buying bread in the grocery store any more......all natural and reminds me of the time as a child when the bakery use to deliver daily to our home. Yes really, I remember the days when we lived in Canada and the baker and the milkman use to deliver daily!!!!

Those days are long gone.......but the fond memories of fresh food still lingers.

So stop into the Black Velvet and see what bread you can take home...........I think I need to try the french bread next!

Stabilizer Fun and More, Karla Herrin - Friday July 29th, 2011

We are excited to have Karla Herrin, a Pfaff Creative Consultant (Educator) here on Friday July 29th, 2011. There will be two Sessions. The Friday morning session is from 9am to 1pm, and the afternoon session is from 2pm to 6pm. Sign up for either session. The afternoon session is a repeat of the morning session.

Karla Herrin has designed quilts as well as home décor and garments. She has studied with Jenny Haskins and she has trained in heirloom sewing through Martha Pullen events. Karla has also appeared on sewing television shows and web video productions. She loves to have fun with her sewing and enjoys sharing her knowledge and creativity. With the combination of Sewing Machines, Software and Sergers Karla feels the possibilities are endless. Karla has been to the Loft before and we are excited to have her back again.

Karla Herrin will show you how to use the best stabilizer for the project you are working on. The event focuses on the variety of stabilizers, and how to use them to get the best results! You don't have to own an embroidery machine, to benefit from this event! We welcome owners of all brands of sewing machines, as this event will teach you how to get the best results for your decorative stitches and machine applique just to name a few. And best of all, Karla will be doing demos and will show you inspirational samples in her trunk show! Karla will also introduce you to designing software for your quilting too!

Christmas Idea Exchange - Thurday July 21, 2011, 5:30pm to 8:30pm

The year is quickly slipping away, and Christmas is less than six months away. It's time again for our wonderful Idea Exchange for Christmas. We have been very busy working behind the scenes, getting ready for our Trunk Show for our annual Christmas Idea Exchange. It's our favorite time of year to show you what you can make for Christmas, for your wonderful friends and family! Some quick and easy suggestions that will get you started! We will also have follow-up classes to really get you in the mood to create and hey it's cool in the shop!

Of course we have refreshments, door prizes and specials for the evening. All you need to do is call to reserve your place. There is no charge, but we do ask that if you confirm you are coming, please show up!! If you find you can't make it, please call in plenty of time, so someone else can have your spot at this popular event. Space is limited, and you won't want to miss out!!!

We will close the Pfaff Shop at 4pm, to get set up for our event. The Quilt Shop will be open too, so if you get here early you can shop upstairs, while we get ready to open the doors around 5:20pm. Can't make the stairs........then you can get a cup of coffee at the new bakery just up the block, near the CVS pharmacy. We will start promptly at 6pm with our trunk show. We start at 5:30pm with a social mixer, where you can catch up with friends, or meet new ones! Have refreshments. This year we will have our event in the main Pfaff Shop.....it is cooler, more room, since the sun will be at the back of the building in the early evening.

We have "Wait Appointments"! Drop your machine off at it's appointed time and you can wait for it. Just let us know that you would like a "Wait Appointment", which takes about an hour to do the annual maintenance. You can shop upstairs, explore downtown, or bring a friend and have lunch downtown.

For the "Wait Appointment", you will need to schedule in advance, request the "Wait Appointment", and bring your machine in at it's appointed time. Please don't be late, so that we may be able to have it ready for you on time. We only schedule a limited amount of "Wait Appointments" so book yours today.

Danny graduated from Needle Trades Technology Greensboro, NC in 1977. His first job was with Wrangler Jeans as a sewing machine technician at various plants in eastern NC. In 1983 he moved to Regency Bedspreads Co. in Conover, NC and was employed as a sewing machine technician. There he gained experience repairing industrial long arm quilting machines and computerized single head quilting machines. In 1989 he moved to Peaches and Cream Inc. and was employed as head sewing machine technician, responsible for 2 manufacturing facilities in Whitakers and Sharpsburg NC. In 1994 he became owner of Statesville Singer Center, an existing Singer and Pfaff dealership established in 1951. He later moved the business and changed the name to Wicker Sewing Machine Co. and specialized in the repair and service of all brands and models of sewing machines. Danny's interests include gardening and music, and he is an award winning guitarist. He is the father of 3 children; Amber, Luke, and Kate; and one granddaughter, Niya. He is an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Statesville and lives with his wife Cathy and 2 teenagers on a 14 acre hobby farm in West Iredell lovingly called "The Miracle Farm." Danny says "I am excited about setting up shop at the Quilters Loft and I hope my 30+ years experience will prove to be an asset there. I am looking forward to serving both new and existing customers, with their sewing machine service and repair needs."

Danny our very own talented Sewing Machine Service Tech has other talents! Went to see him play his music last night at the Wine Shop across Moore Street for Acoustic Wednesdays. Danny and Clyde played some beautiful music.

The Wine Shop is an upscale place to stop in and hear some wonderful music. They have great wines, and wonderful coffee and desserts in a restored circa 1900 building. Mike Parker is the owner and he has done a great job of bringing this great place to downtown. Stop in and stay awhile. You won't be disappointed!

While Reba and I were away at the Inspired Workshop, the Lake Norman Festival was on in downtown. Someone on the planning committee for the festival put Zoo animals and food vendors together in the same parking lot next to the Christian Mission. Well for some reason, duh, the health department had a problem with that, and the Zoo had to move. What better place to put them but around the Quilters Loft!! Does this mean we are party animals here?? So we gave up and closed for the day! The farm smell was wonderful! NOT! Where is the FABREEZE!! Enjoy the pictures..........

Yes, this is the event we have been hoping for!! Barbara Brooks will be coming to inspire - motivate and wow you with all her favorite 'toys'. We can call it 'Notion Commotion'!! or 'Demo Day'!! or how about just a day of Creative Playing!! with so many demos on some of the newest tools, that we all want to know about.

If you are a Quilter - Garment Sewer or Machine Embroidery enthusiast.....you won't want to miss this event. Just wait till you see her trunk show! (She will be bringing her RV and says it is packed with samples and her two puppies.)

Schedule:
10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Lecture - Demos and a Fabulous Trunk Show
12 to 1 p.m. Lunch (On your own or bring a brown bag lunch, we have a fridge)
1 p.m. to 3p.m. More Demos on some great new 'Quilter's Toys' and then we will demo the Crazy Curves - we will have a few machines set up and she will bring some fat quarters and let you sew your 'perfect curves' so when you go home you are ready to start chain piecing.

PLUS.... what a great time for you to see why quilter's love piecing on their Pfaffs!

If you feel more comfortable using your machine, bring it along and we will set them up during lunch break. Bring a 1/4" foot or if you can move your needle on your machine to sew a 1/4" that is fine too.

Supply List: Bring pen and paper to make your 'must have' list and also 'wish list'.

P.S. Barbara just called all excited about this new tool that she just got and said "wait till your ladies see this - it is now at the top of my top 10 things we all have to have". - then she wouldn't tell me what it is - said she would bring plenty and that I would love it.....
Now for the best part of the best day ...........Barbara has taught 'Crazy Curves' all over the country, including at the Quilters Loft many years ago. She fills her classes by saying

Aimee Griffin Joins Quilters Loft!

We would like to welcome Aimee Griffin to the Quilters Loft Team. Many of you know Aimee from her shop, the Overall Quilter, which was in Indian Trail, NC. Aimee will be working as an Educator and Sales Associate in the Quilt Shop. Aimee loves her Pfaff sewing machine and has her eye on the Quilt Expression 4.0. She will also work with Sarah to learn all the new features of Pfaff Machines since she purchased hers years ago. You may find her in the Pfaff Shop also when she is not teaching or working with someone on a new quilt project in the Quilt Shop.

Aimee is also a pattern designer and many of her creations are sold at the Quilters Loft. I just love her recent creation that has cute mushrooms on it and her daughter Jess, helped to design them. A wonderful mother daughter team.

Aimee's daughter Jess will be working with us on Saturdays in the office and helping customers too.

Chicken Buffet Quilt - Support Hospice of Iredell County

Chicken Buffet Quilt

We are pleased to assist the Lake Norman Shag Club in their efforts to raise money to support the Hospice of Iredell County.

This quilt was made as a donation quilt, and the proceeds will go to Hospice of Iredell County. The drawing will take place at the Lake Norman Shag Club’s Annual Chicken Pickin’ by the Sea on February 12, at the OD Arcade in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The club’s chicken themed event generated the idea of a chicken quilt to raise money for a charitable organization. Last year their chicken quilt raised over $900, and they hope to surpass that amount this year.

Sue Warren loved making this quilt, because it gave her an opportunity to work with friends and enjoy the creativity that was involved in making appliqués. Several club members, Del Meadows, Karen Guinta, and Pam Bundy assisted her with the appliqués. They had a great time picking out the accessories for each chicken and coming up with the black and white backgrounds and borders. Texture Magic was used on the chicken bodies in order to give the quilt added dimension. Each chicken represents a chicken dish, and the recipes for the chicken dishes are located in a pocket on the back of the quilt. The black and white background adds to the whimsical nature of this quilt, as well as, the chicken feet walking around the inside border. This quilt will make an excellent wall hanging and be a fun addition to the décor of any room.

It will be displayed at The Quilter’s Loft beginning Tuesday, January 18. Stop in to see it, and purchase tickets for $1 for your chance to win this beautiful quilt.

Christmas Challenge - Mooresville Christian Mission

Did you know that the Mooresville Christian Mission has taken care of over 4,000 families so far this year? They are even seeing the "middle class"! With the unemployment rate hovering around 10%, and no relief in sight, the Mooresville Christian Mission is going to be serving even more families that are trying to get a job, pay their power bill and put food on their table for their families.

Quilters Loft has always taken on challenges to help our community. We have had food drives for the Soup Kitchen, and My Sisters House. In past years we have supported Quilts of Valor and at Christmas we have made cards for Veterans.

This year we are taking donations of white cotton socks, donating fabrics to make special pillowcase and making cards to support our Veterans in the local VA Hospital in Salisbury. We learned they had a great need for white socks and thanks to our wonderful customers, we are close to our goal of 100 socks. Lots of you came to our pillowcase sew-ins and we are close to 100 pillowcases too.

We are having a girls night out Friday Dec 10 starting at 5pm to finish the cards just in time for our Christmas Open House so that all of you can assist in personalizing the cards for the Veterans. This will make them so much more special!

This year I challenge all of you (Christmas Challenge) to help me meet our goal of $2,000 to donate to the Mooresville Christian Mission to provide Christmas or Holiday meals for 80 families. I learned at Thanksgiving that $25 provides a meal for a family in need. For every $25 that you donate, I will match up to $1,000.

All you need to do is to bring your check made out to the Mooresville Christian Mission and drop it off before December 16 at Quilters Loft, so I will be able to match your donation. The Mooresville Christian Mission is a charitable organization, so your contribution is tax deductible.

Kothy has been sewing for more than 25 years. Kothy was a quilt teacher and sewing machine instructor at a local quilt store in Connecticut. She is an owner of Simply Everything Label, a pattern and embroidery design business. She has appeared on America Sews with Sue Hausmann as a guest educator. Her love of creating with fabric and sewing machines started at an early age as she learned to sew with her grandmother. Over the years, Kothy expanded on those basic skills, refining and experimenting, and now brings her varied and innovative design talents to her works. Kids Camp Student Wins at State Math Fair!

Hi Erica,
I had the privilege of judging the K-2 regional winners at the State Math Fair about a week and a half ago. There was a second grader who had a quilting project. I don't remember her name but the 6 judges were unanimous that she was the 1st place state winner! I'm telling you this because in our interview with her she said that she took a sewing class at Quilter's Loft last summer; her mother doesn't sew, but her neighbor does.

As a math teacher and a quilter, I was blown away by this young lady's project. She had batting on her backboard holding up blocks so she could remove them, fold them and show different types of symmetry and geometric transformations. She demonstrated each of them, then showed in the book The Quiltmaker's Gift examples of each. Then shared a quilt magazine and showed each type used in a quilt. I quizzed her by asking for her to tell us about a block that she had not picked out to discuss with us. She nailed it!! Something you guys did got her started-and I'm sure she got an A in math this year!! What a delightful day it was for me.

Candid Shots of the Dreaded Inventory Count

We had a wonderful time taking inventory. This year we had lots of help and got everything done in record time, that we just had to re-organize the shop! Actually I had been planning it for months, just kept it quiet! Judy and Reba spent two days cleaning, wonder if they hire out! What a great job they did! We wanted to give you more room to walk around, showcase the Batiks, since they are so gorgeous anyway, and oh, did you know the Aborgines have arrived? Well, what I really mean is, we now have a beautiful collection of fabrics from Australia and they sure go well with the Batiks.

Of course we ate well, since we seldom get to take lunch, never mind that we got to "do lunch" together, although two days in a row or was that three of Panera's Bread started to get a little overdone! Still pizza wasn't bad either! Love that BBQ chicken! But I did sneek up on some of our staff, in their most "candid" moments, kind of like "candid camera". Enjoy! Our customers who helped sure stayed out of camera range, cause I couldn't find any pictures of them! Wait til next year.....I'll get them for sure......

The Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace features 38 shops under one roof that will interest any quilter, knitter, or fiber craftsperson. The show is organized by The Quilter's Gallery which is owned by Cindy Page and Patti Cline, sisters that operated their quilt shop in Charlotte for over 25 years. The purpose of the show is to help small needlework shops work together to promote business. The Page sisters chose Sanford as their location because of the easy access from nearby metropolitan areas. Knowing that many customers don't like the traffic in big cities, they chose to bring shops from Raleigh, Cary, Fayetteville and Greensboro to the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. Several regional shops, as well as shops from as far away as Maryland and Suffolk, Va. will also participate. With easy access and plenty of parking, the QFAM will pull customers from Greensboro to Wilmington, and from Raleigh to Fayetteville. Customer can enjoy "green shopping" by saving gas and time, since all their favorite shops are in one accessible location.

Shoppers will find lots of fabric, both cottons and woolens, as well as quilting supplies at the QFAM. Many dealers stock traditional quilting designs, but exotic Asian and African fabrics will also be available. Several dealers with sewing machines, embroidery machines and long arm quilting machines will be there as well. Knitters will find yarns and a variety of fibers. Shaker boxes, needlepoint, rug hooking and buttons will round out the variety of merchandise. Mixed media artist will be able to shop for supplies like rubber stamps and painting supplies. Jewelry makers will find beads and a variety of findings for their pleasure. These vendors offer knowledge and skills about their products that are not available at “big box” stores. These shops are “hands on” management, that take great pride in their craft and merchandise.

Some shops will have shop samples, quilt tops and quilts for sale. This is the perfect time to pull out those quilt tops in your closet, bring them with you to the show, and talk to some of the long arm machine quilters who provide finishing services. Machine quilting is now a beautiful and practical alternative to hand quilting. It is strong, durable and cost effective. Many machine quilted examples will be on display in the different booths.

Several quilting guilds will be represented, displaying their cooperative efforts in their Raffle Quilts. Sales of raffle tickets help support community projects like donation quilts to hospitals and police and fire departments. Piedmont and Gate City Guilds will be represented from Greensboro. Also represented will be the Tarheel Quilt Guild from Fayetteville, and Quilter’s by the Sea from Wilmington. Charleston, SC will be represented by the Cobblestone Quilting Guild.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. This show is an effort to showcase many passionate shop owners from a specialty market. A marketplace format provides small shops a focused, affordable retail event. A marketplace format is also free enterprise in its purest form, a business owner dealing directly with his customer. Food will be available onsite, prepared by Chef Paul, a popular local caterer.

The Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace will offer shoppers a variety of merchandise. The 38 participating shops are excited to display their talents and to offer shoppers a wide variety of the latest and most innovative merchandise to get those creative juices flowing. Easy access makes this the perfect venue for some shoppers that have limited mobility, or those intimidated by metro area traffic. We are hoping to provide support for small shops that are often overlooked or ignored by retail news. Yet these small businesses are the backbone of the US economy. The Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace proposes to create excitement for the Sanford venue and the participating vendors which will allow QFAM to become an annual event rivaling other well known consumer quilting shows.

We will be open after Christmas, for our Inventory Clearance Sale. The sale starts Sat Dec 26, at 10am. In the Quilt Shop, all green tag fabrics, will be 50% off, with a one yard minimum. In the Pfaff Shop sale room, we are going into clearance mode. Fabrics are currently $5.99 yard, but during our week long clearance event, all sale room fabrics will be 50% off the current sale price (that could be up to 70% off the orginal price depending on the price of the bolt). So doing the math, this makes our sale room a wonderful deal at $2.99 yard. Our best sale ever!! Here's the catch.....there always is one.....you need to purchase what is remaining on the bolt, or a minimum of three yards, from the same bolt. Otherwise the sale fabric is $5.99 yard. What! Snow! Who ordered that!!

Well can you believe this early snow. I did not believe that it was coming! It was such a surprise when it decided to stick around. We all know the weatherman doesn't always get it right. But it was sort of an early white Christmas....but Christmas is still a week away! Pat went home early at 10:30 since she lived in Statesville. It was amazing how many people were out and about in the snow. Around three when it looked like it was going to really hang around, Sarah and Nancy went home. Of course, I'm such a die hard that I stayed til past 5:30, just in case someone needed a last minute gift, and we did say we would be open late. When the snow got to be 2 inches deep, I reconsidered and packed up and went home. Not a fun drive! Took the dog out when I got home, and took a flying flip off the deck. Ouch!!! Too many bruises to discuss, but I think I'm still alive. Well of course I am, I'm typing this note. So, Saturday, hung around the house since we couldn't go to work. Would rather have been at work, as we were going to have a Thimbleberries Party and the food is oh so gooood. Well, it's rescheduled so we aren't going to miss out. Yeah!!

We are starting out our series with a fun placemat. You can make one or a dozen, but you will only be making one in class. I whipped up a quick design that has a pocket for a napkin and silverware. We will use the quilt as you go method. Your sample will be make with wonderful holiday fabrics. I will be making the kits. All you need to bring is your scissors, rotary cutter and mat. Come and celebrate National Cupcake Day on Saturday Oct 24, from 10:30 am to 4 pm with us.

We will be set up in the Pfaff Shop Classroom as Thimbleberries Club is on the same day and they will be using the upstairs classroom. We all love cupcakes and what better excuse to eat some than this special day.

Everyone is going to make their favorite cupcakes for you to try. I am going to make "butterfly" cupcakes, something my cousin Maggie in England taught me. Hers are so much better than mine but mine are still pretty good. I wish she would pop across the pond to help with our day. She is a wonderful baker and makes wedding, anniversay and other cakes and is in hot demand. Maggi makes everything at home. It takes hours to make the tradional English Wedding Cake with special icing called Royal Icing and yes, a type of fruitcake. Not your tradional fruit cake and oh so good. I love the Royal Icing. What a great home based business.

I am not sure what everyone else is making, but if I told all that would spoil the surprise! Watching what you eat......well I am going to make a receipe I saw on Rachel Ray, by "Hungry Girl", that uses no eggs or oil. It looked good and I understand that they are good. All the taste with no guilt! Check out "Hungry Girls" blog. Lots of wonderful ideas, reducing fat and calories, with all the taste of the "real" thing.

So join us for this fun day, we will have in-store specials, and taste our cupcakes. We will also have coffee and my "famous" hot apple cider. Just in time for cooler weather, and to get ready for the holidays to come.

Art on Main Update

Friday night was a perfect summer evening for a stroll down Main Street. What a wonderful evening we had at our first Art on Main Event. We spent Thursday evening getting everything ready for the big evening. Once Judy's art and quilts were all hung, we realized how bare the walls were in the Pfaff Shop and Classroom. We talked Judy into leaving some of her pieces in the shop. If you were not able to come to Art on Main, you still have a chance to see some of Judy's works of art! Harry was busy taking pictures, but he focused on the art and not on everything. I guess he doesn't like "people" in his pictures! We'll have to train him for the next event! We were so excited when Judy sold one of her Art pieces! It was a wonderful sunset, and has gone to a good home! I wonder what we will do for the next Art on Main event! Mark your calendars for the second Friday of the month for Art on Main. Lots of shops are open for this event, with featured artists, and I think the Wine Shop has wine tasting.

Judy Whitehead is a North Carolina based Mixed Media Artist, currently working in fiber and paint. She started sewing at the age of 7, and has not put down her needle and thread since. She is currently self-employed as a longarm quilter (Goneaway Quilting, Cleveland, NC) and spends her evenings and weekends pursuing her passion for art.
Judy’s works are based on her deep love and respect for nature, color, and mythology. As her work has evolved, she has grown into an artist who bridges both the traditional quilt world and the fiber art world. Currently Judy’s work can be seen at Southern Spirit Gallery in Salisbury, NC.

Quilts of Valor Sew-In Friday July 3, 2009

Pat had a great time leading the Quilts of Valor Sew-In. We were not sure how many would come being a holiday weekend! Our youngest sewer, Justine, had a wonderful time and she sewed her blocks with all the points matching. Everyone had fun, lots of laughs and enough blocks to make another quilt for our favorite project, Quilts of Valor. Pat will be finishing this one. We will have another Sew-In soon. Thanks to all who participated. Janet was not able to come, had fun playing with her grandkids, but hopefully will be available to lead next time.

When I arrived in the shop, my office was decorated with balloons! What a nice surprise. There were more balloons in the classroom with flowers from Reba's garden. Harry sent me some beautiful carnations. Everyone surprised me with something special. Louise made a fresh strawberry cake with whipped cream. It was wonderful. I was wondering how I would feel turning 60. Everyone says it is a milestone, but what does that mean? I don't feel 60, but then what does 60 suppose to feel like? It seems like I was just 50 the other day! What happened to the years! Does anyone know? Thanks for making my birthday special. Time sure flies when you are having fun!

Speaking of time, the shop is turning 7 this September, and I wonder how that happened. It just seemed like the other day we opened! We were looking at pictures taken on opening day, and my how we have grown. Thanks to all of you who have supported us through the years. We enjoy so many friendships and we are looking forward to making many more. Let's have fun and join the challenge we have cooked up, and celebrate in September. I have to think of something special to do for our 7th Birthday. Got any ideas! E-mail me if you do.

Calling all Girls Ages 8 to 12. Win a Seat in Kids Sewing Camp and a New Pfaff Hobby 1132 Sewing Machine!

I had a thought, really I did, about how we could interest kids in sewing. We know that these economic times are tough for some parents to send their children to Summer Camp. This year I am going to have a writing contest for girls 8-12, who would like a chance to attend camp, and go home with their own Pfaff Hobby 1132! The time period to enter is limited, and entires are due June 13, 2009.

So calling all children, grandchildren, neighbors, girl scouts, home schoolers, etc to enter the challenge. Forward to a friend who might be interested.

Here is how to enter the writing contest!

The contestant will write a one page letter, in their best handwriting (no typed letters) on who they are, their age, why they would like to attend sewing camp, and how they will use what they learned in camp in the future.

The letters must be original, in the contestants own words and handwriting. (not their parents) Their name, address, phone number and e-mail address should also be included on the letter. (Parents may help with this part)

Entries must be submitted in person, and handed to the staff in at Quilters Loft Company in Pfaff Sewing Machine Shop. Letters will be reviewed by the staff at the Quilters Loft and the winner will be chosen for their originality, handwriting and desire to learn. All letters will be on display in the quilt shop.

The winner will be chosen June 18, and notified by phone, or e-mail, that they have won the contest.

The winner must be available to attend camp Tuesday June 23 to Friday June 26 from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

Start writing now and good luck. Remember your entries are due June 13, 2009. We are looking forward to receiving the letters!

Calling all Janiacs! New Club Starting Soon!

Yes, we are calling all Janiacs! Alice Gray will be leading our newly forming Janiac Club. Former Quilters Loft Janiacs - have you finished your blocks, your Quilt? Have no fear, here's your chance to finish another project. Alice has finished her quilt and it should be coming home from the Professional Quilter. She is going to lead, teach and help you finish yours.

Don't have a clue what a Janiac is? Janiacs are followers of the Dear Jane Quilt. "Jane A. Blakely Stickle was born in Vermont, lived her married life in Shaftsbury and was buried in the cemetery behind the town's First Baptist Church. She signed her quilt, 80 1⁄4 inches by 80 1⁄4 inches in size, "In War Time 1863, Pieces 5,602, Jane A. Stickle." The quilt is part of a collection kept at the Bennington Museum in Bennington, Vt. It is displayed yearly in September and October. According to the museum's Web site, Vermont had the highest number of soldiers per capita fighting in the Civil War - more than 32,000 in all. Records show that Jane Stickle had no children of her own, but she probably knew all of the young men serving from her small town. At least seven of her nephews also were in Vermont regiments. The pieced and appliqued cotton quilt she made is technically challenging, consisting of 169 square blocks (not one is the same) and 52 larger isosceles triangle blocks forming the border. Some of the blocks are challenging, but have no fear, Alice will teach you how. The club atmosphere will be fun and you will meet other Janiacs. These quilts have been done all over the nation, and have also been made as "Baby Janes", a smaller version of the original. They have also been made in many fabrics, including batiks. Thimbleberries Club 2009

Are you ready for 3' Company? This is the new Thimbleberries Club for 2009. Join us for a fun year of friendship, show and tell, instructions for making the monthly blocks and more. Each year Lynette designs a new project for members of the Thimbleberries Club. The Club projects are exclusive to club members. We have room for 20 club members and we have decided to make the traditional version only this year.

The 2009 Thimbleberries quilt, 3's Company, is a wonderful sampler you will love for many years. Each sampler block is made using 3 fabrics, and framed with 3 borders, a small inner border, a pieced block border, and a floral border. All this comes together perfectly. The quilt is a queen size at 80" x 98". During this 12-month block of the month program, you will receive the patterns and fabrics needed to make 3 six inch blocks and 1 twelve inch block each month. You will also receive 3 extra quilt projects to enjoy throughout the year!

Our first meeting will be Saturday January 24th at 10:30 am to 11:30 ish! This is an introduction meeting where those who are interested can sign up for the club. From Northbound I-77, take exit 49A and turn left on highway 70 to highway 115/21 (Center St.). Turn right and the Civic Center is on the left.

From Southbound I-77, take exit 50 and turn right on East Broad Street. Go straight into town and turn left on South Tradd Street then right on E. Front Street. At the light turn left and the Civic Center is on the right.

Quilts of Valor Sew-In

We had a wonderful time at our Sew-In on Nov 11 for Quilts of Valor. Everyone who came made several blocks and we have enough blocks to make about 4 quilt tops. Janet Graham has volunteered to put all the blocks together and so far she has completed two tops. Below is one of the tops. It is currently hanging in our hallway. We appreciate all who came to our first ever Sew-In for the troops. These quilts are to honor our very special service men and women who have given so much to our country. These quilts are not going onto a battlefield.

We have decided to become a site for making blocks for the Quilts of Valor. I will continue to donate fabric for our Sew-In. Janet will be working on the paperwork to designate us as a site.

We would like to hear from you as to when the best time for you to volunteer to come and make blocks for these quilts. We are considering making it an educational event, focusing on a new block for you to learn and make for the troops. These blocks need to be made with love and care. Speed is not our goal! These are honor quilts and we would like to make them with pride and appreciation of our troops. Thanks again to all who gave of their time and sewing skills. We very much appreciate your support.

Winner of the Pfaff Hobby Grandquilter 1200

Sarah and I spent the weekend at the Mooresville Centerpiece Quilt Show, at our vendor booth. There were lots of vendors and oh the quilts were so beautiful. Our own Pat Bourbeau won several ribbons. Ticket sales were great for the chance to win the Pfaff Hobby Grandquilter 1200 that I donated as the sponsor of the Show. Everyone sat down and tried the Grandquilter. There was so much excitement. On Sat at 4:30pm, I got the pleasure of drawing the name for the winner of the Grandquilter. Thanks to all who took a chance on winning the machine. The suspense was rising as I stirred the pot, a pumpkin head, until I found just the right one. The winner was not present, so we gave her a call on a cell phone. After a few minutes of chit chat, I asked her if she knew why I was calling. Nope!! She was surprised when I told her she was the lucky winner of the Pfaff Grandquilter 1200. The winner Jean Newman. She will be in this week to pick up her prize, get some lessons and of course, we will take lots of pictures!! It's so much fun to notify the winner. Congratulations Jean, and many happy days of quilting on your new machine.

Quilts Of Valor Sew In - Nov 11, 10:30-4:30pm

Come and sew for Quilts of Valor. We are going to have some fun sewing for our troops. What better way to honor those who serve, on Veteran's Day, than to make blocks for Quilts of Valor. All blocks are going to be a 12 1/2 inch star block. You can bring your own favorite star block or use some of the ones we have selected. We will be providing all the fabrics and Sewing Machines to make the blocks.

We ask you to bring your own sewing supplies, such as scissors, rotary, ruler and small mat. Be sure to identify your own supplies so they don't get mixed up with others.

We will have refreshments.

It's a great day out doing something wonderful for our troops.

The Sew-In for Quilts of Valor will be in the new Pfaff Shop Classroom, at ground level. Veteran's Day is Tues Nov 11, 2008 from 10:30 - 4:30pm. Please let us know that you will be sewing with us, so we can plan for the refreshments.

We are so excited that we moved into our new space. The week was so busy moving the Pfaff Shop from the back space to the front space. Everything has come together nicely and all hands worked diligently to make it happen. This weekend is our first annual Oktoberfest. Rain or shine Harry will be under the tent cooking brautworst and pouring root beer from 11am to 2pm. Next best thing to a German Band is our DJ who will be playing German music to get us into the spirit of it all.

Come in and test drive one of the new Pfaff Creative or Expression Sewing Machines and enter a chance to win a iPod Nano. It is preprogramed with sewing information and you can do what you like with it. I have never had one and am not so sure how to use it, but there are instructions. Just ask any kid and they will show you! We also have great prices on many machines and financing is available up to 48 months depending on the machine.

We are having our Nostalgia Sale where fabric is $7.50 per yard for cottons (min 1 yard). There are some other in-store specials. We have not received the fabric cabinet for the Pfaff shop so we only have fat quarters in the new classroom, some sale fabrics and regular priced kits.

So come out and have a "Braut" on us. We are accepting donations for the Danielle E Liotta Scholarship fund for scholarships for Lake Norman and Mooresville High Schools. Danielle was a wonderful 19 y.o. who lost her life in a tragic traffic accident. In life she did so much for everyone and supported some many charitable events in her short life. She is an inspiration to many and we would like to keep her memory alive with the scholarship funds. Danielle's mother will be with us as we support the scholarship fund.

We are also raising money for the Susan G Komen Foundation as Oct is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Tickets are $1. for a chance to win a pink quilt and the drawing will be November 30, 2008. All proceeds will go to support breast cancer. Help us raise $500 for this worthwhile cause.

Come out and have fun with us on Saturday, rain or shine. "Brauts" are on the grill behind our building under the tent from 11-2pm or until the last guest leaves!

We are expanding!

This week the renovation of the old bakery at the front of our building has started. We decided to take over the additional space, and not have any more tenants. We are so excited that we will have a Main Street presence and a classroom on the ground level. A classroom with NO fabric and lots of room to be creative. This will give us about 4,000 square feet of space.

The Pfaff Machines are moving forward and we are now trying to decide how much room we have, so that we can put other merchandise in the space. We will be expanding our notions, and other artistic items for art quilters. I found a great line of children's clothing patterns and we can't wait to make them. Decisions, decisions, decisions, and too many to think about!

We are planning lots of club activities, charity sewing and just some fun sewing nights with the girls!

I'm finally going to have an office again, so I don't have to drag stuff home and back again. Wow, I could get more organized and I am looking forward to it!

Stop in and watch the progress! We hope to be moving sometime in September. We are planning a Grand Opening and Celebration of our 6th year as a Quilt Shop, and our 4th year as a Pfaff shop. Reserve the weekend of Oct 24 and 25. We are going to have some fun events, so stay tuned to what we are up to!

We are currently working on our class schedule to start new classes when we have the ground level classroom. If you have ideas about some classes you would like, please let us know. Chris Tibbetts is a trained and experienced teacher (M.Ed., M.A.) who has taught a variety of disciplines to students of many age groups. Currently, she is employed full-time by Mitchell Community College as an English instructor. Out of a desire to share her love of the art of quilting, Chris also teaches quilting on occasion. She has recently relocated to Mooresville from Asheville, where she worked as Chairperson of the English Department for the local community college and also taught classes for several quilting shops on the side. Chris loves to introduce beginners to the joy of color and design, and is very patient with sewing newbies. Her goal for her quilting students is that quilting should be fun and not stressful.
